Jim Sloan works with leaders when what they say matters most. Not just to inform. But to earn trust, shape perception, and move people to act. He’s most often called in when the stakes are high and the margin for error is small.
Jim is an executive communications strategist who helps senior leaders articulate complex business strategies with clarity and conviction. He has spent his career in high-stakes environments, partnering with CEOs, CFOs, and business unit leaders to shape the messages that define how organizations are understood—by employees, investors, policymakers, and the market.
His experience spans both corporate leadership and advisory roles. As director of executive communications at Fortune 500 companies including International Motors (formerly Navistar) and Markel, he served as chief speechwriter to senior executives, helping guide organizations through transformation, turnaround, and growth. His work has contributed to measurable gains in visibility, reputation, and share of voice in highly competitive industries.
Earlier in his career, Jim held senior leadership roles at global firms including Hill & Knowlton, Burson-Marsteller, and FTI Consulting, where he advised companies through crisis, reputation challenges, and major strategic shifts. Across that work, he developed a reputation for sound judgment and a disciplined approach to narrative, helping leaders say what matters, and say it well.
At Strategy Muse, Jim works with executives at pivotal moments—major announcements, investor communications, and public-facing leadership platforms—helping them communicate with clarity, credibility, and impact.
He understands that when the stakes are high, words don’t just reflect the strategy. They shape what happens next.
Before working with leaders and organizations, Jim studied and taught American literature. Writers like Mark Twain trained him to hear the difference between language that sounds impressive and language that actually persuades. That’s an instinct he now brings to senior-level speeches, presentations and strategic messaging.
